Fort Thomas was named in honor of civil war general George Henry Thomas. The city sits along the Ohio River and has a country-suburban feel that includes many parks and wooded areas for residents to enjoy. In addition, its riverside location allows residents water access for boating and fishing. Residents also appreciate the convenient commute to Cincinnati and the international airport.

Grassroots and Vine is a locally owned restaurant, bar, and wine shop that serves a fantastic menu of sandwiches, flatbreads, and paninis. They offer a tremendous selection of wines along with coffee and tea options. Additionally, they focus on community gatherings and provide live music on Thursday and Saturday nights.
Nextdoor to Grassroots and Vine is the Fort Thomas Parlor, a coffee, ice cream, and cookie dough shop that serves various flavors of ice cream and cookie dough. They also offer milkshakes and malts. Another outstanding location in the downtown area is
Midway Café, a local bar, and restaurant with an extensive beer and liquor selection and a limited menu. They like to keep it simple with classic bar food, such as smoked chicken wings and a ribeye sandwich.
North of the Midway District is the Central Business District, residents enjoy a great cup of coffee at
Fort Thomas Coffee Shop, a trendy and hip café that features an extensive menu of classic and unique coffees and a wine bar at night. This area is going through an amazing transformation, adding high-end condos and restaurants. Recently moving into the area is Hello Honey, a popular ice cream shop, with unique flavors and combinations. Try the Banana Honeycomb - it’s delicious.
Things to Do
There are many things to do in Fort Thomas, and residents enjoy spending time in their town.
Tower Park is an 86-acre park with many amenities for residents to enjoy, such as participating in a workout or game at the armory gymnasium or recreation center. They enjoy a show at the outdoor theater or take their kids to the playground where they can socialize. The park also has lighted baseball and softball fields, sand volleyball courts, and basketball and tennis courts. Residents can also take advantage of the sheltered picnic areas and the tree-lined walking and biking trails.
Tower park is also home to the weekly farmers' market. The market is held in the historic mess hall and features locally grown produce, meats, and baked goods. They also have vendors selling lotions, pet products, and more.
Highland Hills Park is a place locals love to gather with their furry friends, as a dog park is available. This off-beaten-path park has a disc golf course, baseball field, play equipment, and walking trails. The park is surrounded by trees creating a private atmosphere for those in the park.
Residents enjoy celebrating the Fourth of July with friends and family at the Fourth of July Parade. The parade is a local favorite, and the entire town is involved in planning and attending the event. Along with the parade, there are bands and fireworks at dusk.
